SUMMARY:Deason Home Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:On a dark and stormy night in October\, 1863\, Major Amos McLemore was shot in the home of Amos and Eleanor Deason. The Deasons lived on a farm in Jones County\, near Ellisville. They were friends of McLemore and had offered their home as a headquarters for him during his time in Jones County. McLemore was on a mission for the Confederacy\, sent to round up a band of deserters. Speculation was that the shooter was Newt Knight\, head of this band. No one was ever charged with the crime\, although Knight is said to have told several family members that he did it.\n\n \n\nOn October 27\, from 6 11 PM\, a reenactment of the shooting will take place at the scene of the crime! The Deason Home in Ellisville will open its doors to the public for a trip back in time. Members of the Tallahala Chapter NSDAR\, assisted by the Rosin Heel Camp SCV\, will give visitors a glimpse of the past. Dressed in period costumes\, the hosts will share stories of the home and those who lived and died there\, plus a little history of Jones County thrown in for good measure.\n\n \n\nThe ladies of the Tallahala Chapter will also be selling books they have compiled about the history of Ellisville and Jones County. Memorial bricks are also for sale at the home. These bricks can be purchased in memory or honor of someone\, or by local businesses as a permanent advertisement. Bricks will be placed on the front walk of the home. The ladies are also selling a limited number of Deason Home bricks. Information about DAR membership is available and the ladies would love to have interested women join their chapter. Membership is open to any woman\, aged 18 and older\, who can prove lineage to an ancestor who fought or gave aid in the American Revolution. Don't know if you have one? The ladies can help you with your research.\n\n \n\nAdmission for the evening is $10 for adults\, $5 for school aged students and preschool aged children are free. \n\n \n\nThank you for supporting Jones County's oldest home!
